Newy parkrun has this morning proven itself to be potentially one of the fastest parkrun courses in Australia, With Scott Westcott smashing the Australian parkrun (5km) record by 19 seconds, in a time of 14:23. The previous record was held by Marty Dent (14:42). Congratulations Scott.
This is another parkrun record to add to the books held by the Region of Runners. The RoR also holds the record for largest Parkrun attendance in Australia (Newy Parkrun) and largest attendance at an inaugural parkrun (Blackbutt).
Scott now heads to Melbourne to compete in the Melbourne Marathon. I have word that the Region of Runners will be very well represented in Melbourne next weekend, so lets all keep an eye out for him and offer big cheers as he runs by, as I believe it will be Scott’s final marathon as an elite competitor. i hope to see him on course, and wish him the best of luck!
